October 4, 2021Salvatore Vetrini, Senior Counsel of Regulatory Affairs, FedEx Corporation, and Jim Campbell, a noted international postal consultant, led a discussion with a dozen postal stakeholders about the importance of advanced electronic data (AED). U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued an interim final rule on March 15, 2021 pertaining to AED provisions in the Synthetics Trafficking and Overdose Prevention Act (STOP Act).
Topics covered included CBP’s reporting requirements to Congress, the large number of countries that remain exempt from the STOP Act regulations, the effectiveness of AED in improving the efficiency by which illegal and dangerous items are confiscated, and the importance of the underlying quality of AED on incoming packages, as well as whether or not it is included.
